Humanizing design

The Cook County Department of Connections wanted a play element where the prisoners would receive relatives' visits. They noticed how puppet theater helped humanize the traumatic environment for kids and help them express themselves. We could not use metals in our project, considering jail restrictions.

A playground centered on puppet theaters and ways of interacting with them. The playground comprised six modules that could be assembled in various ways to promote creativity. Each module was composed of different toys and sensory elements. There were two main puppet theater stages and a mobile one that could be placed on the table where the kids talked with their relatives.

I worked with six other teammates and one project advisor. It was challenging to center all the ideas, but we achieved that by researching and discussing thoroughly. It was great to have many members to finalize the pieces.
